Customer Review: Good but not good with zoom
This is good binocular but donot use for the zoom. Zoom is not good. It is enough powerful with 20x.
Customer Review: Tripod a must!
Nice quality binocs but… With magnification this high the movement is also magnified extremely as well. Anything over the base power requires a tripod which takes away from the portability. A 25mm objective lense with this high of a magnification is like looking through a straw; NO field of view. If you want this much zoom, stick with a spotting scope (still need a tripod). August 19, 2008
This entertaining and informative book is a primer for bird watchers—both those who trek the countryside armed with binoculars and camera, as well as those less nimble nature lovers who merely keep a bird feeder near their kitchen window. Supplemented with color photos and illustrations, this book gives pointers on how to identify birds by plumage and shape, how to select appropriate binoculars and spotting scopes, the best times of day to watch for birds, and how to recognize and interpret birds? activities. There is also information on feeding birds, making a backyard attractive to birds, building bird houses and nest boxes, and much more. Supplementary information includes a list of rare-bird hotline phone numbers, web sites that offer information on wild birds, and a recommended reading list. Hundreds of color photos and illustrations.
Customer Review: Not the best choice for my purpose
Because I could not “thumb through” the book prior to purchasing it, it did not serve as a good birthday gift for my 93 year old mother with very poor eyesight. Pictures are better than words for her I did not feel that she was happy with our gift.

Revised and updated, this new edition of a much sought-after classic remains the best source for information about the trees, shrubs, and vines that provide bird habitats and feeding sources in the United States and Canada from the Atlantic coast to the Rocky Mountains and beyond. More than 160 species of trees, shrubs, and vines that provide food, cover, and nesting for common North American birds are highlighted, with instructions on designing a landscape habitat that attracts desired bird species.
For each plant species the author provides a description, flowering and fruiting periods, preferred habitat conditions, growing ranges, and hardiness zones. Detailed instructions cover propagation, transplantation, landscape, and site requirements. The new edition includes updated data, expanded bird/plant preference indexes, 24 new photographs of trees and plants in actual backyard habitats, and 64 detailed drawings of branches, leaves, and berries for easy identification.
Customer Review: bird attractions
A very good book, can be used as a reference book when planning for planting, very informative and interesting.a worthy addition to the birders library.Good for beginners and expierienced persons familiar with plants and birds.
Customer Review: Good resource if you ignore the invasives listed
If you’re interested in providing habitat for birds, this is a good resource…but if you’re interested in preserving habitat for birds, ignore the invasive plants listed. I had assumed that an updated version of any book wouldn’t list plants that are among those invading our natural areas! Even if these plants do provide nesting areas and food, they ultimately lead to a decrease in habitat as the invasive plants, such as multiflora rose, displace native plants. (For lists of invasive plants, check out www.invasive.org and other websites.) The book sometimes cautions to keep these plants under control, but why contribute to further problems when there are so many great native plants? Seeing these plants listed in a book that was updated so recently was very disappointing. Use this book cautiously – the information presented is very useful and well-organized. Before planting any of the plants listed, though, verify that it isn’t invasive in your area. Buy from here…
